I’m an Australian journalist, editor and storyteller with more than 35 years’ experience across news, features, profiles, criticism and long-form journalism. I spent nearly three decades at The Sydney Morning Herald, including 10 years as Arts Editor, commissioning stories and shaping cultural coverage while continuing to write about the people and ideas influencing Australian life.

My work spans theatre, music, literature, visual art, film, health, technology, communities and the changing character of the country. I have interviewed leading actors, musicians, writers, directors and artists, as well as people whose experiences illuminate larger social and cultural questions. My writing is distinguished by curiosity, clarity, close observation and humour and an abiding belief that everyone has a story worth telling.

I now work independently across print and digital media. I’m available for feature writing, profiles and interviews, arts criticism, commissioned editorial content, program notes, artist biographies, editing and editorial strategy. I also create impactful donor stories for arts organisations, cultural institutions and purpose-led businesses.
